Eight & Fifty

8 and 50

8 and 50 years ago I began this brief sojourn.  To the young that’s a lot, to the old not so much. 40 is the old young and 50 the young old. More fears have been quelled than developed. Light has always been brighter than darkness dark. My life painted with many hues, I noticed the muddying of the blend and viewed the zenith of each color alone.

Wondering if the brain is always turning the image passing through the lens right side up, or am I seeing with my mind’s eye? Hearing much at loud decibels requires many decibels now just to hear. I can hear loudly what wasn’t said and barely hear what was.

Traveling the broadways and the narrow, I stumbled along the path through the woods, seeking my own trail.  Joined large crowds of wrong and sought the lonely right. I made many discoveries previously discovered, amazed to know what has been known and yet disappointed my original thoughts were already thought.

Entertained by dreams in sleep, motivated by dreams I had awake. Sleep provided escapades into a limitless world. Awake provided vision to overcome limitations. The excitement of the pursuit always surpassed the frustration of unrequited fulfillment. Besides, A.D.D. creates new dreams!

I think I’m looking for that one more woman to love…but not hard.
It is tough enough to be a good man without having to exceed the men she’s known. It seems a difficult order to not exhibit the flaws she detests and recognizes quickly.  While simultaneously, possessing a greater sum of qualities than the few her memory seeks from each of her previous suitors. There’s a wide chasm to cross; for her, heartbreak does not deserve shaved legs.  For me, alone does not have to be lonely.

Since I won’t live to 116, I realize I’m somewhere beyond half way.  Unless, President Obama and the Emmanuel brothers get a hold of me, I’m going to keep dreaming and discovering, enjoying sleeping and waking on the road less traveled. Or maybe, I should start practicing my ceramics. Do ‘old age’ homes offer scholarships and have recruiting weeks?
